He one met a tortoise who was not at all ashamed of his slow pace. He laughed at the tortoise. Saying How slow you are? The tortoise felt annoyed and replied you can run very fast but I think I could beat you in a race. Ha Ha! Laughed the hare You? What a joke. The tortoise replied. Let us try we will have a mile race tomorrow at ten in the morning. The hare took up his challenge. They agreed that a distant tree should be the winning post. At exact ten the next day the race began. They both started together. The hare ran away very fast and soon left tortoise far behind. When he had run half a mile he said to himself. In fact I am quite sure to win. The tortoise has walked only a few steps. So why should I hurry? Let me have a short sleep. He lay down to rest under a shady tree and soon fell fast asleep. The tortoise on the other hand went on and on slowly but steadily till he reached the sleeping hare. He did not wake him up. But passed on quietly to the goal. When the evening came the hare woke up and ran as fast as he could. But when he reached the winning post. He was surprised to find the tortoise already there. Moral: Slow and Steady wins the race.
