Islamabad:April 18:By keeping up with modern day challenges of building and designing, Pakistani architects have strived to make their structures creative, said Shahab Ghani Khan, President of the Institute of Architects Pakistan in a ceremony on Tuesday, to recognise exemplary work done by local architects.
The event which was titled, ‘Excellence in Architectural Design’, attracted entries from veteran architects and also from new entrants to the field. In the Category of Restoration & Adaptive Re-use Building, renowned architect Habib Fida Ali clinched the first prize for renovating his 19th century residence.
Speaking on the occasion, Ali said he had lived in the house for the past four decades. “And during this time, I’ve seen some six houses on the same lane crumble down.”Nayyar Ali Dada got the first prize for the category ‘Buildings with covered area above 25,000 sq. ft’, which had nine nominations. He is the architect of Serena Hotel.
Najeeb Omar received a trophy for designing M Zaheer Adamjee’s house in the ‘Single-Family Residential Units’ Category. In the Industrial Buildings category, Shahid Abdullah’s Khaadi Factory and Anjum Pervez’s Plastech Autosafe Factory Building earned them laurels.
In the category of ‘Interior Space Above 5000 sq. ft’, Ahsan and Sara Najmi Bilgrami won an award for their work on the building of the Standard Chartered Bank. The jury comprised Shahab Ghani Khan, Professor Dr Gulzar Haider and others.The news.
