Govt spending Rs220m on construction of 52 colleges

PESHAWAR:April 20:The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Higher Education, Qazi Muhammad Asad said Thursday the government is spending Rs. 220 million on construction of each new college while record 52 new colleges have been set up during last four years in the province, which reflects the government's education friendly policies. Addressing the stone-laying ceremony of government girls degree college Astarzai Payyan in Kohat district, the minister said that only 50 colleges were setup during last 60 years while the present government have established a record 52 new colleges during last four years in the province and more are being established to spread the rays of education in nook and corner of the province. He suggested increase of the budget of education department to help control pressure on the existing colleges and universities due to rapid increase in population. The Minister said that ANP was the only political party believes in uniform service of people and are working for promoting peace and harmony in the society. He said that great freedom fighter Bacha Khan loved education by setting up 100 colleges in the province and fought for rights of poor people and Pakhtuns. "I think peace is vital for development and without it, the dream of success could not be achieved," he added. He said the newly established Khan Abdul Wali Khan University in Mardan and Kohat University of Sciences are playing key role in equipping the students of remote areas with education. APP.
